Phils angst

I suspect a large number of Phillies fans are scratching their heads this morning.  Last night the Cards forced a game 5 in the opening round of the playoffs with a 5-3 win.  The Phils got 3 hits in their first 3 batters and scored a pair of runs in the first inning but managed only 3 hits after that.  This is the 2nd time in the series the Phils have gotten an early lead and then coughed it up.  For another post-season Phils 1st baseman Ryan Howard is struggling.  So far he is just 2-15 in the series.  2nd baseman Chase Utley has just 1 RBI in the series.  We've seen this before with the Phillies.  Several times during the regular season the Phils struggled to score runs and of course last year in the NLCS the Giants shutdown the Phillies.

A game 5 in the first round of the playoffs was not on the mind of many Phillies fans.  They figured to brush aside the Cards but King Albert and the rest of scrappy Cards aren't following the script.

The Phils do have the upper hand tomorrow night because they have Roy Halladay on the hill.  I think they still win the series and are the favorite against either the Brewers or D-backs in the NLCS.  My pick still won't make the next 36 hours or so any easier for Phillies fans.

Picks

Iowa over Penn State (Sat 2p on WSBA)
#3 Oklahoma over #11 Texas
Titans over Steelers
Eagles over Bills  (Sun Noon on 96.1 WSOX)

Lions beat Bears (MNF)

Last Week-5-0   Overall 20-6
