Curse of the Andino

Who says baseball can't be exciting.

Red Sox nation will be seeing Robert Andino in their nightmares for a long.time.  The Orioles 2nd baseman stroked a single to left in the bottom of the 9th last night to give the Birds a 4-3 win over Boston.  The walk off win helped eliminate Boston from the Wild Card spot.  About 3 minutes after Andino's game winner the Rays beat the Yankees 8-7 on Evan Longoria's 12th inning solo homer to capture the final A-L playoff spot.  Tampa trailed the Yanks by 7 runs in the 6th inning but rallied with 6 in the 8th and forced the extra innings.  Tampa caught the Red Sox after trailing by 9 games on September 1st.  The Red Sox become the first team in baseball history to fail to make the playoffs after leading by those 9 games.

The National League collapse happened  in Atlanta when the Braves blew a 1 run lead in the 9th and then lost 4-3 to the Phils in 13 while the Cards beat the Astros 8-0 to make up a 10 and a half game deficit in the final 5 weeks of the season.

Amazing stuff yesterday evening.  One can only hope that the post-season is just as good.  The A-L divisional series sees the Tigers take on the Yankees and the Rays battle the Rangers.  In the N-L--the Phils host the Cards while the D-backs battle Milwaukee.  I like the Tigers and Rays and the Phils and Brewers in the first round of the playoffs.
