Ngata

The Ravens have inked 2 time All Pro Defensive Tackle Haloti Ngata earlier this week to a new 5 year $61 million  contract with $40 million guaranteed.  Besides the big smile, on the 6th year pros face, the biggest impact will be on running back Ray Rice.  The deal with Ngata will allow the Ravens to go into the off-season without having to pick between Ray and Ngata when they use their franchise tag.  Both players could have become free agents and the Ravens would have had to pick between the 2 stalwarts.  With the Ngata deal taken care of the Ravens can now focus on a deal with Rice in the off-season instead of during the 2011 campaign.  Rice will be making just half a million dollars in the final year of his rookie contract this season. Look for the Ravens, and the versatile Rice, to come to terms on a new deal sometime next summer.

The Ngata deal also makes him the highest paid player, other than a QB, in the league. Any way you look at the Gentle Giant is set for life.
