Kick in the teeth

The LPGA is going through some tough times these days. A few of its oldest tournaments have lost sponsorships and will not be on the schedule next year. One of its majors doesn't have a home for next year. The McDonald's LPGA Championship is leaving Bulle Rock in Havre De Grace and doesn't have a sponsor or a course for next June. Now the premiere event on the schedule, the Women's U-S Open at Saucon Valley, next month will be without 2 of its highest profile players. Natalie Gulbis and Michelle Wie failed to qualify for the tournament in sectional play on Monday. Oh Women's #1 Lorena Ochoa will be there but not too many people are going to run to Bethlehem the 2nd week of July to see Ochoa. Wie drew the biggest crowds last weekend at Bulle Rock. Sorry women's golf needs some star power and even though Wie and Gulbis have never won on tour they have star power.
