C Mac

The Chris McAlister era in Baltimore is over. Yesterday the club cut the 3 time Pro Bowler freeing up 8 million dollars in salary cap room. This was the right thing to do. C-Mac has been plagued by knee problems the last couple of seasons and played in just 5 games this past season and the Ravens still had the 2nd best pass defense in 2008. In 10 years McAlister was a key component to one of the best defenses in the history of the NFL. Now is the time for McAlister to be cut. $8 million is just too much to pay for a player in the waining years of his career. I wouldn't be surprised if the Ravens used their 1st round draft pick to go after a defensive back. The extra 8 million will help in resigning linebackers Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs and Bart Scott. The team would also like to bring back Safety Jim Leonhard who turned out to be the real find of the season. Leonhard deserves a nice payday. He stepped in after Dewan Landry was hurt playing safety and also a key role on special teams. Don't be surprised if the Ravens look to sign a top flight receiver to go along with Derrick Mason. This could be the start of an interesting week or so for the Ravens. They face a deadline of the end of the month before all of the top defensive players could become unrestricted free agents and go out on the market.
