Over paying

The St Louis Cardinals are about to sign 1st Baseman Albert Pujols to a 10 year $220 million contract.  This is an idiotic move by the Cards.  Pujols is 32 years old and some believe he might be even older.  I understand giving the future Hall of Famer a 4 year deal worth about 22 million per year but not 10 years at that price.  There is no way Pujols is going to be a very productive player when he is in his early 40's at the end of the contract.  The Cardinals are one of the most popular teams in baseball and have no need to keep Pujols.  The slugger's production is already declining.  Over the past 4 years Pujols has seen his batting average drop from .357 in 2008 to 299 this past season.  In addition Pujols drove in a career low 99 runs this past season.  I'm not sure the Cards will be getting top value if Pujols continues to produce at the levels he did this just completed season.
