Expanding MLB Playoffs

Major League Baseball owners and players are talking about an expansion of the playoffs--possibly as early as 2012. No exact format has been announced but I have some ideas.

I would like to see an expansion of the playoffs to 6 teams per league and add an extra round of playoffs. My idea also calls for cutting the regular season by 6 games to 156.

Here is the format. The 3 division winners and 3 wild card teams would make the playoffs in each league. Each division winner would play a wild card team in a best of 3 series with the first 2 games at the division winner and the 3rd game--if needed--would be at the wild card team. The division winners would be seeded 1-3 depending on record while the wild cards would be seeded 4-6 depending on their records. #1 plays #6, #2 plays #5 and #3 plays #4. The divisional playoffs would remain a best of 5. The Championship Series and World Series would remain best of 7's.

The proposal would increase the number of playoff teams from 8 to 12.

Picks--

Penn State over Indiana at Fed Ex (Sat 10:30 on WSBA)
Ravens beat the hapless Panthers (Sun 12:30 on WSBA)
Eagles over Giants (Sunday 7:20 on 96.1 WSOX)
Raiders over the Steelers
Titans beat the Redskins

Last week 3-1
Overall 31-20
