Local Love

We've come to the time of the year where most of the fall high school sports are starting to wind down and teams are playing in either league or district playoffs.  Now is the time to support your local athletes. The kids who play will appreciate having fans in the stands...especially the secondary sports like Boys Soccer, Girls Volleyball and Field Hockey.  For the most part these kids play in front of friends and family.  Some extra voices in the crowd will bring a smile to their faces.  You will also see some very skilled athletes at work.  A good number of the athletes play for the love of the sport.  Very few will get college scholarships out of their high school careers but yet they spend long days practicing and perfecting their games.  For that they deserve a special pat on the back.  Finally it is pretty cheap entertainment.  The price tag for most of the games is $5 bucks and a hot dog at the concession stand will be a couple of bucks.   I've had the opportunity over the past 5 or 6 years to become an avid volleyball fan.  My son played, and since he has moved on to college, I have continued to support the boys and girls teams at my son's high school.  Last night the Hempfield Girls won their 3rd straight Lancaster Lebanon League title in a 5 set thriller over Penn Manor.  It was a great match and both teams played well.  A fun night at the gym...better than watching a rerun of Glee.
