Golf's Future

I attended media day yesterday for the AT&T National at Aronimink outside of Philly. Tiger Woods was the attraction. The Media Conference was a packed house for Woods. If Defending Champ Justin Rose was the featured guest the media and sponsor turnout would have been have as many people. Tiger Woods is the future of golf. We can talk about all the young guns like Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald or Ryo Ishikawa but none of them fills a room with Media and Sponsors like Tiger.

Woods put golf on the map when he broke through in the late 90's. For the decade after Nicklaus, left the game, a series of good but not great players prowled the fairways and golf was only for golf geeks. Now everyone wants to know how Tiger is doing. The money being made by players today is all because of Tiger. I can guarantee you that winners wouldn't be making $1 Million plus if it weren't for Tiger. The overlords of golf had better hope that Woods' knee gets better because without him they are going back to smaller purses and lower attendence at Media Day events and come tournament time.

For the record...I would have attended the Media Day without Tiger. See I'm a golf geek and wouldn't pass up on playing one of the best golf courses in Pennsylvania. I strongly suggest you plan on getting to Aronimink in late June for this year's tournament. It will be the 2nd and last year the event will be played on the Donald Ross gem before AT&T and Tiger head back down I95 to Congressional for the 2012 tournament.
