Golf Major's

Just spent the July 4th weekend walking around Aronimink Golf Club following the PGA Tourwith the pros at the AT&T National. Although Tiger was sort of a non-factor the golf course turned out to be the real star of the event. The pros walked off the course singing the praises of the Donald Ross gem. Almost to a man they all said they would love to play a major in Newtown Square. The pros will be back for a 2nd year next July to play the 2011 event there because Congressional Country Club will be hosting the U-S Open next June.

Tournament officials were really happy with the response from sponsors and fans. Over 200 thousand people attended the AT&T this year. Talking to some golf writers all agreed that Aronimink could be in line for a PGA Championship. The PGA has already run a tournament at the facility back in 2003 when the Senior PGA Championship was played on the course. Unlike the USGA the PGA is not as concerned with the final winning score. They won't mind if the winner is say 8 to 10 under par. The time line might hurt Aronimink a bit because the U-S Open is set for 2013 at Merion. No way are they going to play 2 majors in the Philly area in the same year! I would suspect it might be 2015 at the earliest before Aronimink could host a major.

However if you are a golf fan you will be treated to a nice little run here in our neck of the woods. Here is a list of the major golf tournaments coming up over the next few years with-in a 3 hour drive.

2010--Women's U-S Open @ Oakmont
2011--U. S. Open @ Congressional CC
2013--U-S Open @ Merion
2015--Women's U-S Open @ Lancaster Country Club
2016--U-S Open @ Oakmont

Also remember last year the ladies played the U-S Open @ Saucon Valley. Heady stuff if you are a golf fan. Get your tickets or you miss out on the fun.
